Danny MacNanny and the Rumbling Tum

Danny MacNanny and the Rumbling Tum

This is the new book which was an extremely exciting project last year. I collaborated with an amazing digital artist called Lana Grushnik who is in Iceland. We met through the Prosetrics magazine, where my poetry and art featured along with Lana’s digital art.

I contacted Lana to ask if she would be interested in creating the images for the story.

Lana was excited to become involved in the project. The wonders of technology allowed Lana and I to communicate via Zoom and email. She was fantastic to work with and between us we created Danny MacNanny.

The inspiration for the book was the Isle of Skye, which has been my home for thirty years. I am an amateur environmentalist and care very much for the planet. I worked for over forty years in the early years sector and taught children the importance of looking after the environment. Keeping the beaches clean and looking after our oceans is particularly important to me. I authored the story with this in mind. The book is in rhyming language about Tammy the hungry and grumpy cat and Danny who tries to catch a fish. The fishing trip is adventurous with storms, heavy rain, and rumbling tums. There is a message about looking after our oceans and recycling junk into homes for wildlife.

Studio

I had a studio built on the meadow beneath the large conifer tree. The studio overlooks the river and is the perfect setting to inspire my creativity. This will be used as a dedicated space for my writing and art. It is a wonderful place to invite friends for coffee and cake. I have been replanting bluebell bulbs which were dislodged during the excavation process. I am very excited about the wildflowers in the Spring.

The studio faces south and takes full advantage of the sun as it travels across the sky.

I am very proud to say that everything inside the studio has been recycled or was a gift from friends and family.

World Book Day Celebrations

I was invited to Dunvegan, Carbost and Struan primary schools on the Isle of Skye to read my children’s book Muddy Moos and Midges to the children during their World Book Day celebrations. I was delighted to see the children had dressed up as their favourite characters from the book.

Dunvegan Primary School

Muddy Moos and Midges reached the top 100 in children’s nursery rhymes on Amazon last week. A big thank you to everyone who bought a copy. All of the profits will be donated to Counselling Care Skye and Lochalsh- Supporting children and young people’s wellbeing.

Muddy Moos and Midges-Children’s Book

I have written and illustrated a new childrens book called Muddy Moos and Midges, which will be released in December 2021

Muddy Moos and Midges

Meet the wonderful animals and characters on the Isle of Skye in this charming rhyming book. Fisherman Tam had his lunch snatched by a seagull and a family of mice who moved into Morag’s wellies. All of the rhymes are enhanced by colourful images painted by the author Sue Wood.

The books will be available from Amazon and local outlets on Skye.

Throughout my career, I have worked with many children and young people with mental health difficulties. Due to the pandemic, these numbers have increased dramatically, which has stretched resources to the limit. I wanted to make a difference, so I wrote this book to raise funds.
