Danny MacNanny and the Rumbling Tum

Danny MacNanny and the Rumbling Tum

This is the new book which was an extremely exciting project last year. I collaborated with an amazing digital artist called Lana Grushnik who is in Iceland. We met through the Prosetrics magazine, where my poetry and art featured along with Lana’s digital art.

I contacted Lana to ask if she would be interested in creating the images for the story.

Lana was excited to become involved in the project. The wonders of technology allowed Lana and I to communicate via Zoom and email. She was fantastic to work with and between us we created Danny MacNanny.

The inspiration for the book was the Isle of Skye, which has been my home for thirty years. I am an amateur environmentalist and care very much for the planet. I worked for over forty years in the early years sector and taught children the importance of looking after the environment. Keeping the beaches clean and looking after our oceans is particularly important to me. I authored the story with this in mind. The book is in rhyming language about Tammy the hungry and grumpy cat and Danny who tries to catch a fish. The fishing trip is adventurous with storms, heavy rain, and rumbling tums. There is a message about looking after our oceans and recycling junk into homes for wildlife.

Òran Uisge Wildflower Meadow Book

Oran Uisge Wildflower meadow Poetry Book

Òran Uisge Wildflower Meadow is my second poetry book published by Grosvenor House Publishing Ltd and will be released on August 5th 2021.

Òran Uisge (Gaelic for song of water) is a peaceful place to watch the bees and butterflies foraging for food, to enjoy the fragrance from the wildflowers, which fills the air and to listen to the abundance of songbirds. The river flows gently towards the sea, ceaselessly providing us with the tranquil sound of its journey. The meadow changes constantly as the seasons turn.

These poems are written in an evocative way to allow the reader to experience the effects nature has on our senses and mood. Whether it is the warm breeze touching our skin, the scents from orchids ascending through the air, the song of a skylark overhead, the sight of dark clouds with the threat of Summer rain or the taste of the blackberry harvest. Òran Uisge is a perfect environment to lose yourself in nature and in the moment.

Òran Uisge wildflower meadow was the inspiration for me to write this second poetry book. The collection includes; Midsummer Night, Summer Rain, The Call from the Wild and The Dance of the Barn Owls.

Swallow Season

Swallow Season

One day they arrive in a frenzied flight,

On a beautiful morning, with sky so bright.

Swooping and soaring, they show off their skills,

Diving and spinning, they perform at will.

Beaks full of mud from the ground they collect,

Their nest in the eaves, they strive to perfect.

Tirelessly working from dawn until dusk,

They bind their nests; in these, they must trust.

Laying their eggs and raising their brood,

Their toil continues, as they search for food.

Hunting in flight, with acrobatic flair,

Butterflies and moths come out (if they dare).

The season is short, and soon they are gone,

To a much warmer climate, where they belong.
